State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken Suo-Moto cognizance of media reports regarding reported infrastructure deficiencies at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) and directed the Commissioner Secretary (Health and Director SKIMS to respond within four weeks.

In a statement issued today SHRC spokesperson said the Commission observed that common people and experts believe that Institute was originally created as a referral Hospital, but with the passage of time it has become a General Hospital and as a result the quality of treatment to serious patients has suffered. “In this regard to know the point of view of the State Government and also the institute, Commissioner Secretary Health and Director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura are directed to file their response within four weeks,” it said.
