The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has announced to set up a sub-office in the Rajouri region. It has asked the Rajouri district administration to identify a place for the purpose.
The sub-office will cater to the needs of the residents of Rajouri and Poonch districts, said the SHRC secretary, in a statement.
At present, a two-member bench of the rights panel comprising chairman Justice (retired) Bilal Nazki and member Jung Bahadur Jamwal is touring the region. They held sittings of the SHRC at Rajouri and Poonch on November 7 and 8, respectively.
“The chairman directed the Rajouri Deputy Commissioner to arrange a place for the setting up of a sub-office of the commission, so that the complainants of the two districts do not have to go to Jammu or Kashmir to pursue their cases,” said the secretary.
The SHRC dignitaries also held discussions with members of the Bar Associations of the twin districts.
On November 2, the SHRC had recommended identification of the victims buried in 2,080 “unidentified and unmarked” graves found in Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Jammu region using DNA profiling and other forensic tests.
