Expressing his satisfaction over the success of the shutdown call and “Kashmir Million March” in London, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, Monday said that the Kashmir cause is gaining popularity in and outside the state and a public opinion is gathering in favour of the right to self determination of Kashmiris.

In a statement to KNS while terming the successful shutdown of October 27  as an eye-opener and a referendum, Geelani advised New Delhi to shun its ‘rigid and stubborn’ approach and accept the ground realities and let Kashmiris to deicide their future.

“On 27 October 1947 and forcibly enslaved the whole nation without their consent. The Kashmiri nation has never accepted the military occupation and they have opposed this occupation from its very first day. From last 67 years India had been although unlashing worst kind of atrocities and cruelties upon the subjugated people of Kashmir only to suppress their genuine voice but today if India will cool mindedly think over the whole situation then they will understand that they have failed to change the “Hakeekat-e-Kashmir” (Reality of Kashmir) and after the six long decades, this issue is still alive,” he claimed.

“Neither has gun succeeded in silencing the voice of Kashmiri people and nor has any kind of benefits and incentives purchased their wishes,” Geelani said.

“India has engaged its 7.5 lakh forces in Jammu & Kashmir and due to this dispute a large chunk of their annual budget is spending on their defence while as every year, thousands of people of this country die due to hunger. Final solution to the Kashmir dispute is not only beneficial for the people of Kashmir but it is more beneficial for the millions of the people of this country also so the India rulers should shun their rigid and stubborn policies and face the truth with regarding the Kashmir,” he added.

While expressing his satisfaction over the success of the London ‘Million March’, Geelani said, “It is the welcome move that the world understands the pain of Kashmiris and are coming out in support of their demand. London Million March is a right move at right time and this process should remain continue in future also. The government of Britain should listen to the voices of the people and they should raise this issue with the Indian government.”

Geelani said that the England has played a key role in the creation of Kashmir dispute “so it is the moral responsibility of its rulers to compensate their undemocratic role played in this regard and use its influence for holding the referendum in Kashmir on the pattern of Scotland.”
