Srinagar

A complete shutdown is being observed in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district for the third consecutive day after a local family claimed that one of the five militants killed in Rafiabad gunfight was their son.

All shops, commercial establishments remained closed in Langate market for the third straight day in protest against the local militant’s killing and to support the demand of the family that the body of their son be handed over to them, said locals. The shutdown also affected the movement of transport in the area.

Army on Thursday claimed that five militants were killed during a gunfight in Rafiabad forests. An army official claimed all the slain were foreigners and affiliated with the Lashkar-e-toiba militant outfit.

However, a family residing in Langate area on Friday approached the police in Sopore with the claim that one of the slain was their missing son.

The police have already collected blood samples of the family member to match it with the samples of the slain militant.
