Government on Saturday imposed restrictions in Srinagar, Trehgam and other places to thwart any protests aginst the state on the 33rd death anniversary of Maqbool hat.

Heavy security deployment was made in district headquarters and towns to prevent protests called by the pro-freedom leaders on the death anniversary of Bhat.

Bhat was hanged in Delhi`s Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984.

The family of Bhat and pro-freedom leaders have been demanding the return of his mortal remains from the authorities since.

Meanwhile, all shops and business establishments are closed in Kashmir on the call of joint resistance leadership.

Public transport and other businesses also remained shut throughout the valley.
