Member Legislative Council and Former Cabinet Minister Ajat Shatru Singh today called on the Minister of State for Home, Industries and Commerce, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo and offered to donate Rs 50 lakh for relief to the earthquake victims of the Chenab Valley.

As per a statement Kichloo has extended his gratitude to Ajat for this goodwill gesture towards human cause. Ajat, on this occasion, has said the whole erstwhile district Doda is close to my heart and our family is anxious about the massive damage caused by tremors in various parts of the Chenab Valley.

Meanwhile, Kichloo has directed the management of the SICOP to arrange CGI sheets, on account of this donated money, for free distribution among the quake victims to enable them construct roof tops of their houses.

Earlier in the morning, several deputations from Kishtwar, Doda and other parts of the State met Kichloo and apprised him about their problems and difficulties. Speaking to these deputations, the minister has said that the earthquake victims of Chenab Valley and measures are underway to provide adequate number of tents and adequate quantity of ration to the people in erstwhile Doda district.

Kichloo has said, “Entire government machinery is geared up to meet any eventuality in the wake of intermittent tremors that shook the region, as it falls in the seismic zone” and he asked the deputationists not to be panicky as the government was fully abreast with the situation and no stone would be left unturned to save lives and property of the people. He has said both central and the state governments are liberally providing full support for rescue and rehabilitation measures for the affected earthquake hit people of the Chenab Valley.
