National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah have said that Allama Iqbal (RA) was a great poet and philosopher, who woke up the Muslims of the subcontinent and infused a new spirit and enthusiasm among them through his poetry.

Abdullahs said Allama Iqbal (RA) played a historic role in the Kashmir Struggle against Monarchy and offered moral and ideological support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in his fight against tyranny and oppression, a party statement said this evening.

Abdullahs expressed their views in a message on Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary.

“Allama Iqbal (RA) was against sects, divisions and believed in the unity of Muslims,” Dr Farooq Abdullah said.

“The philosophy of Allama Iqbal was timeless and holds the solution to a lot of social, political and economic issues today. As a nation, we should draw inspiration from Iqbal’s message of “Khudi” and equality, so that the State could witness social justice, empowerment and enlightenment of the youth,” he asserted.

Former CM and NC Working President, Omar Abdullah said that Allama Iqbal (RA) considered justice, faith and a service of humanity as precursors to the progress of Muslims.

“Issues like extremism, poverty, injustice, intolerance and sectarianism which exist today need to be tackled by spreading the teachings and message of Iqbal (RA). Iqbal’s teachings were centred around the establishment and existence of a judicious socio-economic system that worked to empower the weakest sections of the society,” junior Abdullah said.

“Allama Iqbal (RA) was one of those philosophers and thinkers of the world whose message was for entire humanity and not limited to regional boundaries as he raised his voice against economic exploitation all across the world through his poetry,” Omar said in his message on Iqbal Day.

He said it was necessary that we infuse the values of hard-work, devotion and dedication in our youth as the youth held the key for the prosperous future of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We have to march forward collectively for the development and prosperity of the State and the nation by rising above personal interests. This was the message of Iqbal and on Iqbal Day today we should resolve to emulate these values,” Omar Abdullah added.
