SRINAGAR: Six alleged drug peddlers were arrested and over 13 kg of charas, along with a small quantity of heroin, was seized in multiple operations across Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
According to a police spokesperson, five cases have been registered in connection with the crackdown carried out at different locations in south Kashmir.
Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara raided the residence of Nisar Ahmad Nadaf in Dachigam Srigufwara and recovered around 2 kg of charas-like substance.
During naka checking at Shakras, Srigufwara, police arrested Adil Ahmad Mochi of Badroo and recovered approximately 2 kg of charas-like substance. In another operation at Pethnoo Crossing, Aqib Ramzan Rather of Chatrasoo was apprehended with around 2 kg of similar substance.
In a separate case, police intercepted a passenger auto at Iqbal Market near Mill Mod and arrested the driver, Javeed Ahmad Dandroo of Pandithpora Anchidoora, and a passenger, Majid Akram Malik of New Qazibagh Anantnag. Around 12 grams of heroin was recovered from them.
In another operation at KV Pora Marhama, police apprehended Sabzar Ahmad Rather of Waghama Rather Mohalla and recovered approximately 7.854 kg of charas-like substance from his possession.
All accused have been taken into custody, and cases have been registered under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway.
Police said strict action against drug trafficking will continue to curb the menace and ensure a drug-free environment.
