SRINAGAR: A group of six men is reported missing and authorities said the army has launched an operation to locate them.

“Six persons from Warwan went on foot from Anantnag via Margan Top,” a senior official said. “It has been more than 20 hrs since they made their last call from Margan Top, but they haven’t reached their homes till now.”

The official added: “Search operation was launched by Army, but their whereabouts could not be ascertained.”

There are apprehensions that the six men might have been caught in the snow as the snowfall is heavier in the upper reaches of South Kashmir. It is believed to be more than four feet. In summers, people are used to taking the foot track to reach a distant location. However, in winter, it is very difficult and almost impossible.

Wadwan and Madwa valleys are located up above the Pir Panchal and located between the Kishtwar and Anamatng districts. Most of the supplies including ration goes from Anantnag and not from Kishtwar.
