Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) held an impressive graduation ceremony in its premises at Gulmarg for the students of its 6th ski course on Tuesday.

Nazir Ahmad Mir, KAS, Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority and Managing Director J & K Cable Car Corporation Limited was the chief guest who gave away the prizes to the successful students. gulmarg

J S Dhillon, Principal IISM welcomed the chief guest and briefed him about the various adventure activities being undertaken by the Institute. He said Institute trains more than 500 students every year in skiing alone who become the ambassadors of Kashmir and send many adventure loving tourists to Gulmarg.

More than 65 students from different parts of the country participated in the course.  Institute not only develops the adventure skills in its students but also serves as a perfect platform for integration of the Kashmir youth with that of the rest of the Nation. Dhillon said Institute will conduct many summer activities such as waterskiing, parasailing, hot air ballooning and trekking in the coming days. Institute also trains young ski athletes for National & International competitions.

He also said that currently an Italian coach Nadia Burtolozzi is training about 25 young skiers of J&K in advance skiing lessons so that they could participate in the National & International competition.  These young children have been picked up from the different parts of the state who have the potential to excel in the skiing sports at International level.

Nazir Ahmad Mir, CEO,GDA/MD,JKCCC complimented the students on their successful completion of course and gave awards to winners of different position holders.  He said IISM Gulmarg is doing a great service to the Nation by promoting adventure tourism in the state.  He said state will use this Institute to promote eco-friendly adventure tourism in the state.  He laid the emphasis on cleanliness and motivated all youth to contribute to preserve our tourist destinations for our future generations. He said IISM can contribute in developing quality infrastructure in Kashmir.  He assured the Principal to work hand in hand to promote Gulmarg as an ideal adventure tourist destination and create state of the art adventure infrastructure.  He said that chief minister Mufit Mohammad Syed, the current CM of J&K is a man with great vision in the tourism sector and we need to cash on his patronage to develop our destinations with world class infrastructure.  He desired that Govt. of India open more such Institutes in south Kashmir and Leh to enable the youth of this state make full use of its programs on skills development for promotion of adventure tourism and also generate huge employment for locals.
