SKIMS Marks World Heart Day with Awareness Drive on Cardiovascular Health

   

SRINAGAR: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) commemorated World Heart Day 2025 with a series of events aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular health and prevention.

The day-long programme, organised by the Department of Cardiology, featured a boat rally on Dal Lake involving faculty, staff, and students, symbolically promoting heart health and preventive care messages to the community.

A formal function at the SKIMS Auditorium followed, where experts highlighted the rising incidence of cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart attacks among young adults. Discussions focused on risk factors such as smoking, unhealthy diets, sedentary lifestyles, and the importance of timely interventions and healthy living.

The event also included a felicitation ceremony recognising the contributions of cardiac staff and honouring senior retired faculty members for their lifelong service.

Presiding over the function, Professor Ashraf Ganai stressed the urgent need for public awareness and lifestyle modifications to curb the growing burden of heart disease in Kashmir, commending the Department of Cardiology for its preventive and interventional initiatives.

The observance concluded with a collective commitment from SKIMS faculty, staff, and students to continue efforts in reducing cardiovascular ailments within the community.
