SRINAGAR: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura has 1,366 vacant posts against a sanctioned strength of 2,757, with the highest number of vacancies reported in the paramedical and technical cadre, according to information submitted to the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The vacancy position at SKIMS Soura shows that 1,391 posts are currently filled, while 1,366 remain vacant. Of the sanctioned posts, 647 are for medicos, including faculty and resident doctors, 1,295 are in the paramedical and technical category and 815 are in the nursing cadre.
Among medicos, 497 posts are filled and 150 are vacant. The paramedical and technical category has 498 posts filled against 1,295 sanctioned, leaving 797 vacancies. In the nursing cadre, 396 of the 815 sanctioned posts are filled, while 419 remain vacant.
The figures were furnished by SKIMS Soura in response to Starred Assembly Question No. 287 concerning the overall sanctioned and vacant posts and steps taken to fill vacancies during the last two years.
The institute said action had been initiated for recruitment and revival of posts through the Health and Medical Education Department.
A total of 823 vacant posts have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) or the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) through the Health and Medical Education Department for recruitment.
These include 120 medico posts, 365 paramedical and technical posts and 338 nursing posts.
The institute has also referred 162 posts to the Finance Department through the Health and Medical Education Department for revival. These comprise two medico posts, 144 paramedical and technical posts and 16 nursing posts.
Besides, 22 posts are currently under process for referral, including 28 medico posts, three paramedical and technical posts and one nursing post, according to the table supplied by SKIMS. The category-wise figures in this column, however, total 32 rather than the stated aggregate of 22.
A further 349 vacancies fall under the promotion quota. This includes 285 posts in the paramedical and technical category and 64 nursing posts, while no medico post has been listed under the promotion quota.
The information was compiled by SKIMS Soura in September 2026 in response to a communication from the Health and Medical Education Department dated September 10, 2026. The document was issued by the Medical Superintendent, SKIMS, and dated September 11, 2026.
The institute said the information could be forwarded to the concerned quarters after approval from the competent authority.
