SRINAGAR: Students of Sheri Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) are aghast over the creation of fewer posts for degree holders in comparison to the number of posts created for one-year diploma holders by Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

For the past two days, students of SKUAST have been protesting against the creation of fewer posts by the JKSSB terming it “a mockery of their future.”

A complete strike is observed inside the campus premises from the past two days with students “threatening” to continue it till the issue is not resolved.

Hundreds of students were protesting at the main gate of the campus. The students have locked the main gate.

“We have done our professional degrees and it took us almost ten years to complete. Now the posts created by JKSSB are of totally no use. JKSSB has advertised only six posts under open merit category while they have advertised numerous posts for the students who have only a one-year diploma,” said a protesting student.

“Despite having B.Sc, MSc, PhD and PDF degrees in Horticulture sciences and our UT being largely dependent on the Horticulture sector, horticulture graduates still stand unemployed,” said a protesting student.

“The department has shown surprising apathy towards the recruitment process. For about a decade not a single post has been advertised by the department for the degree holders,” said another protesting student.

The students have been protesting even during night hours.
