SRINAGAR: Skyview by Empyrean is gearing up to host the second edition of the prestigious ‘Sama-Vaya’ art retreat from August 22 to 25, 2024.
This as per a statement event promises a convergence of art, culture, and natural beauty, drawing renowned artists and craftsmen from across India to collaborate and create against the backdrop of Jammu’s serene landscapes.
Organised by art consultant and curator Anupa Mehta, and supported by crafts curator Anu Chowdhury Sorabjee, ‘Sama-Vaya’, meaning ‘union’ in Sanskrit, aims to foster creative exchange and produce masterpieces inspired by the region.
Artists will work individually and in pairs, interpreting the essence of Jammu and the ambiance of Skyview by Empyrean through their distinct artistic lenses.
The event culminates in an exhibition on August 25 at Pine View Banquet, showcasing artworks by notable figures such as Sohan Singh Billawaria, Suman Supta, and Rachita Datta.
Sohan Singh Billawaria, renowned for his expertise in Traditional Miniature Painting, brings a wealth of experience, having exhibited widely across prestigious venues including Amar Mahal Museum, New Delhi’s Triveni Kala Sangam, and Lalit Kala Academy.
His accolades include national and state awards, affirming his stature in the art world.
Suman Supta, a National Academy award winner, enriches the retreat with his profound explorations of cultural and anthropological themes rooted in mountainous landscapes.
His work has been showcased internationally, notably at the United Nations Office at Geneva, underscoring his global impact and artistic vision.
Rachita Datta, celebrated for her innovative blend of tradition and contemporary expression, brings a fresh perspective rooted in her hometown of Jammu. Her accolades include the National Young Artist Scholarship and recognition at the prestigious Lalit Kala Exhibition in New Delhi, highlighting her rising influence in the art community.
Commenting on the event’s significance, Anupa Mehta expressed her excitement about returning with another edition of ‘Sama-Vaya’ following the overwhelming success of its inaugural year. She emphasised the diverse backgrounds and creative perspectives of this year’s artists, promising a vibrant tapestry of artistic interpretations.
