SRINAGAR: Three security personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat from Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been awarded the Kirti Chakra on the eve of Independence Day.
The Kirti Chakra is the second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
Among the four recipients, three are being honored posthumously: Colonel Manpreet Singh, Rifleman Ravi Kumar, and DSP Humayun Bhat, who were killed during an encounter with militants in Anantnag district in September of the previous year.
The fourth award goes to Major Malla Rama Gopal Naidu.
