SRINAGAR: After 55 days minimum temperature rose above the freezing point in Srinagar city on Thursday as the weather office forecast further improvement in night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the coming days.

“Minimum temperature dropped below the freezing point on December 12, 2020 in Srinagar. It remained below the freezing point for 55 days and has risen to 0.4 today.

“Weather is expected to improve further in the coming days across J&K and Ladakh. The feeble western disturbance presently active is likely to move away and the weather is expected to remain dry from tomorrow onwards”, an official of the meteorological (MET) department said.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the J&K recorded a low of 0.4 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius while Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 3.3 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu recorded a low of 9.9 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded 1.0, Katra recorded 8.8, Banihal recorded 0.0, and Bhaderwah recorded 0.1 degree Celsius.
