Delhi Press Club Seminar

The Kashmiri students staying put in New Delhi Wednesday held a special gathering event to commemorate the death anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat.

The event which started with a very short notice witnessed participation of faculty members and students of the three major universities of New Delhi besides civil society members.

Speaking to Kashmir Life from Union capital this evening, one of participants said that they had invited a number of speakers to attend and they “whole heartedly” turned up.

On the occasion, Hurriyat Patriarch Syed Ali Geelani addressed the gathering telephonically.

Besides students, Professor S A R Geelani and a number of civil society members spoke on the occasion.

The event witnessed students reading excerpts from writings of Afzal Guru including his letter addressed to the youth of Kashmir.

Later, slogans in favour of “Freedom of Kashmir”, “Afzal Guru”, and “Maqbool Bhat” reverberated the press club. The students later dispersed peacefully, the participants said.

Earlier, students in Jawahar Lal Nehru University last evening held a similar talk on the duo Kashmiris who were hanged inside Tihar jail in New Delhi. The mortal remains have been buried inside the jail and families have been demanding the return of the same. Kashmir witnesses shutdown on February 9 and 11 to mark the death anniversaries of Guru and Bhat.
