SRINAGAR: The government on Monday said that there will be no restrictions on vehicular movement on the National Highway as the vehicles from either side would be allowed to ply on a daily basis.
Confirming that the condition of the all-weather thoroughfare has improved, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, V K Bidhuri, said the traffic from either side of the highway will be allowed to ply every day. “Also, the trucks from both sides will ply towards their destinations on either side,” he said.
When asked about allowing civilian traffic during security forces movement, he said, “The decision was taken at a time when there were no dividers in place. Although the situation has improved and the dividers are also in place, the security agencies are reviewing the decision.”
Any decision in this regard will be taken keeping in view the security angle as well as the convenience of common people, he added.
Pertinently, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar had announced that civilian traffic wont be stopped on the national highway during VVIP and senior officers’ movement.
He had also advocated additional measures and SoPs for facilitating free flow of traffic without compromising convoy security in a phased manner—(KNO)
