Following a snow-avalanche at Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar Jammu highway, which forced the authorities’ to the close the only route connecting Kashmir with rest of the country, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) launched a snow-clearance operation on the highway to make it motorable.

Due to the disruption, the highway remained closed on the third consecutive day for the traffic movement.

Earlier, an avalanche hit the Jawahar tunnel and blocked both tubes of the tunnel forcing authorities to close the highway. Reports also suggest that minor landslides were reported in Banihal and Ramsoo areas and roads are yet to be cleared.

An official from the Traffic department said that the work is in progress and will be completed today.

BRO, which maintains the Jawahar tunnel stretch of the highway, is working in full swing to make way for hundreds of vehicles, mostly trucks, which are stranded along the national highway from many days.
