Following the fresh snowfall in Kashmir valley, authorities on Saturday suspended the vehicular movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway due to the accumulation of snow at Jawahar Tunnel.

The spokesman said that vehicular movement has been stopped on Jammu-Srinagar highway due to the snow accumulation on Banihal, Nowgam, Jawahar Tunnel Sector, adding that decision regarding allowing the vehicular shall be taken after clearance of the road.

Pertinently, the historic Mughal road and Bandipora Gurez is also closed for the vehicular movement. Besides, the Kashmir highway many roads leading to hilly areas from north Kashmir’s Kupwara were also closed. Meanwhile, the flights from Srinagar airport were also cancelled due to the bad weather.

The snowfall in Kashmir started on Friday afternoon, soon after the congregational prayers; however, the snowfall led to relief from the intense cold wave throughout the valley.

In Srinagar, the residents have complained about the deprivation of snow clearance from Barzullah area of the city. Pertinently, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu lives in the same area.
