SRINAGAR: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches on Thursday forced the closure of Sonamarg-Zojjila road and a Mughal road connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said. The authorities this morning also closed the 85-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir for vehicular movement after fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass.
The upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experienced snowfall overnight under the influence of Western Disturbance.
Mughal Road, Bandipora-Gurez and Sonamarg-Zojjila roads were closed on Thursday morning following fresh snowfall at various places along these vital roads, the officials said.
All these roads usually remain closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall.
The MeT department has said that weather is partly to generally cloudy at most places of Kashmir and Ladakh and mainly clear in Jammu.
“No forecast of any major snowfall till December 25,” MeT department said.
