SRINAGAR: The Srinagar- Jammu highway remained closed on Monday for the second consecutive day due to landslides and snowfall, a traffic official said.

An official said that no vehicular movement would be allowed on the highway keeping the safety of travellers in mind.

“The traffic was suspended on Sunday following landslides at Ramban and fresh snowfall,” he said.

He said more than 4,000 vehicles are stranded at various places on the highway. On Sunday night, the J&K traffic police had issued an advisory asking people not to travel on the national highway.

He added that over two feet of snow has been recorded at Jawahar tunnel and Qazigund.

“The decision regarding allowing the movement of traffic on the highway will be taken only after the road is cleared off by the road maintenance agency concerned and after assessing road condition,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the traffic on the historical Mughal road remained closed due to the accumulation of snow and Srinagar Leh highway is closed by the government till further orders.
