All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) (g) Saturday said that a leader of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).

TeH is a constituent of APHC (g) headed by Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani himself.

“Police today booked another Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat Sopore under the lawless law PSA,” a statement issued by APHC (g) said this evening. “Till date 82 political activists and students have been slapped with this black law in the rule of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and dozens of them are still serving the preventive detention.”

Strongly condemning the slapping of another PSA on Abdul Gani Bhat, Syed Ali Geelani demanded immediate release of all the political prisoners.

Geelani criticized Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for his “hollow slogans” which he had made before the elections that “he will face the pro-freedom leadership on political turf and I don’t want to keep anybody behind the bars and they will be allowed to present their view point”. “But since the inception of Mufti-BJP government in the state, all his claims proved to be a hoax and he proved to be an opportunist politician. Mufti government has virtually banned the peaceful political activities of the pro-freedom camp particularly the political activists of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and the police are continuously following our members and activists and it has been a norm to detain them under baseless charges,” Geelani said.

APHC (g) chairperson, who continues to remain under house detention, said “only in a last one month, five Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activists were detained under the PSA and today another important Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat was also detained under this black law.”

“PSA is an oppressive and cruel law which was introduced in 1978 by the Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and which was meant for forest smugglers. But later this inhuman law was unabatedly used against the Islamic and pro-freedom people in the state which is continue in 2015 also,” he added “the international human rights organization Amnesty International has termed the PSA in Kashmir as ‘Lawless Law’ and had termed its use as clear violation of the international laws and human rights. But the law is still used in the troubled state and the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is openly using this black law to suppress the peaceful voices of the pro-freedom people.”

While demanding immediate release of all the prisoners detained under the PSA including the Abdul Gani Bhat, Geelani added that this government policies are “increasing the political uncertainty and instability in the state”.
