Veteran Supreme Court lawyer and former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani Saturday held one hour detailed meet with the Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani at latter’s Srinagar residence- asking the senior separatist leader to “soften his stand” with the changing times.

According to the KNS correspondent, Jethmalani who is at present on a family tour to Kashmir Saturday visited the residence of Syed Ali Geelani and held a detailed meet of one hour duration.

Jethmalani reportedly discussed various issues pertaining to Kashmir with the Hurriyat (G) chairman during which Geelani asked the learned lawyer to provide legal aid to the Kashmiri prisoners who are at present languishing in various jails of the capital.

Geelani also stressed that various Kashmiris don’t get the fair trial in New Delhi and measures must be taken to ensure that they are being provided the satisfactory legal services.

During the meet, Jethmalani asked the chairman of Hurriyat’s hard-line faction that the stand must be soften as the circumstances have changed as compared to the past and there must be flexible approach so that Kashmir issue is addressed.

Geelani, according to the reports, replied to the former BJP leader that there would be no change in the principle stand of the Hurriyat (G) and that there are some basic foundations of the Kashmir cause that cannot be undermined and ignored.

When contacted Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar confirmed Jethmalani had meeting Geelani. Akbar said that the Hurriyat chairman has categorically stated to the former BJP leader that there will be no change in amalgam’s principle stand and that Modi is following the communal agenda in India.
