Police have arrested the Territorial Army man in Kupwara from his native village Dardpora following the orders by Chief Judicial Magistrate of the district.

SP Kupwara Ajaz Ahmad Bhat told KNS that the Manzoor Ahmad was arrested Tuesday evening from Dardpora.

“Manzoor is in police custody and will be produced in the court tomorrow as per the orders of the court,” the SP said.

After court directions, police had registered a case against the TA man of 160 Battalion under an FIR number 100/2015 under 364 of RPC, following an appeal by family members of two men after they went missing.

The two men disappeared at a time (on November 17) when army claimed to have killed two militants in Kupwara’s Manigah area—thus fuelled apprehensions of another Machil fake encounter like incident of 2010 in which army killed three young Kashmiris in a staged encounter along the Line of Control in Machil area of the district.

A court in this frontier district was informed that two civilians—Ghulam Jilani Khatana (42) and Mir Hussain Khatana (45)—went missing on November 17 and personnel of Territorial Army associated with Trehgam camp had a role in their disappearance.
