Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with Ms Gandhi, the state Congress leaders including ministers emphasized that elections be held on its due date. Talking to KNS, a senior Congress leader and minister said that the State Congress ministers demanded that elections be held on schedule and there should be no delay in elections.

However, the National Conference leadership has expressed reservations on this demand. “Relief, rehabilitation and elections cannot go hand in hand. Presently the administration is busy with the relief and rehabilitation work and they can spare this time for election preparations. It is not possible,” a senior National Conference leader told KNS pleading anonymity.

Meanwhile, talking to KNS, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that the government will call a cabinet meeting to review the overall relief and rehabilitation measures and to discuss the slackness in central government’s support to the state government. “The chief minister will soon call a cabinet meeting to discuss the relief and rehabilitation work and to see the reasons behind snail’s pace support from the central government,” Sagar told KNS.
