SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has identified several road projects for decongesting Sopore town and improving traffic movement, but the proposed works are yet to receive approval under any plan or scheme.
The Public Works (R&B) Department stated this in reply to a starred question, D.No. 1/6/270, raised by MLA Irshad Rasool Kar.
The proposed works include the upgradation and widening of the Sopore Fruit Mandi and Sopore town, Chankhan-Sofi Mohammad Akbar Road, Khankah-Sofi Mohammad Akbar Road, Kaloo Market-Arampora towards Bandipora road, and Ashpeer-Mazbugh Road.
According to the department’s annexure, the proposed upgradation and widening of Sopore Fruit Mandi and Sopore town has a tentative cost of Rs 249.52 crore.
The Chankhan-Sofi Mohammad Akbar Road project has been estimated at Rs 10.12 crore, while the proposed upgradation of the Sopore-Bandipora road from Kaloo Market-Arampora, covering kilometres 1 to 8, has a tentative cost of Rs 29.71 crore.
The development and strengthening of the Mazbugh-Ashpeer Road has been estimated at Rs 34.06 crore.
The government said the projects had been identified on the recommendations of the concerned authorities with the objective of decongesting Sopore town and improving traffic movement.
However, it clarified that the projects had not yet been approved under any plan or scheme.
