Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said the two militants slain in a gunfight with the government forces in Dangerpora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore town were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.

A police spokesman in a statement said that the slain militants have been identified as Naseer Ahmad Mir alias Tawseef of Brath Kalan, Sopore and Asif Ahmad War of Warpora, Sopore.

“Both the slain militants as per police records were affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT and were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities,” said the spokesman.

“According to the police records, Naseer had a history of crime records since 2017. Naseer was part of groups involved in planning and executing a series of terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities,” he said.

“Several crime cases were registered against him. He was involved in case FIR No 319/2017 pertaining to killing of a civilian namely Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh resident of Bomai,” he added.

“Asif, as per police records was also involved in terror related crimes in the area,” said the spokesman.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” he said.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” said the spokesman.
