Sopore ‘Karate kid’ wins gold in International Karate Championship

Usman Amin, a 6th standard student from north Kashmir’s Sopore town won Gold in the 3rd International Karate Championship in Thimpu, Bhutan, bringing laurels to Jammu and Kashmir.

Usman is a student of Sanctorum Public School Sopore.

The Third International Karate Championship 2017 was held in the Bhutan capital over the weekend.

A total of 235 students participants from Bhutan, India, Nepal, Thailand, SriLanka, Bangladesh, Iran and other countries took part in the championship.

The annual championship organised by Bhutan Karate Association is aimed to foster friendship among the South Asian countries.

Usman has earlier participated in many National Level Competitions and has bagged 5 Gold Medals. His aim is to participate in Olympics.

Usman’s half expenses were borne by his School.

Shakir Ashraf, Chairman of Sanctorum Institutes told media, “he (Usman Amin) is a talented kid and with little support and appreciation, he can do wonders in future. I would like to support every talented sports student be it from my institution or outside.”

Mohd Amin, father of Usman thanked Sanctorum Institute of Education, Sopore for sponsoring his son to participate in this international championship.

In past also, students from Sopore have won gold in international championships bringing laurels to the apple town. (Kashmir Wire)
