A complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday to mark the 26th anniversary of the 1993 massacre.
On this day, in 1993, BSF men fired indiscriminately in Sopore market, setting shops, houses on fire and more than fifty civilians were killed in the massacre.
To mourn the dead, all shops and business establishments remained closed while as very thin traffic was on the roads.
Reports said special prayers were offered in mosques and graveyards.
They said Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in strength in the town to prevent protests against the killing of more than fifty civilians.
Pertinently, Joint Resistance Leadership had called for complete shutdown in Sopore today and appealed people to participate in Fateh-a- Khawani for the victims.
