SRINAGAR: Kamran Khan, a Kashmiri professional, has been appointed as Senior Director and Head, India, by the Department of State Development, Government of South Australia. In this role, he will lead efforts to boost South Australian exports to India and secure foreign direct investment from India into the state.
Based in Chennai, Khan has extensive experience with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission in India, where he has worked since 2010. He most recently served as Senior Director and Regional Lead for Infrastructure in South Asia, supporting Australian businesses in trade and investment across the region.
Khan highlighted the strong potential for collaboration between South Australia and India, particularly in sectors such as defence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, resources, energy, food, agribusiness, and water management. He emphasised the importance of the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), which has deepened economic ties since its inception in December 2022.
The appointment of Khan and another India-based director reflects the South Australian Government’s strategic focus on India as a key market, to leverage emerging opportunities in energy, space, technology, and other sectors as part of a broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Australia and India.
Khan was also the recipient of the Australia Day Achievement Medallion from the Australian Government earlier in 2024.
