SRINAGAR: A 10-year-old boy was killed after a tractor overturned near a school in the Saimoh area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday, raising concerns over the safety of unattended heavy vehicles.
The deceased was identified as Salim Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Saimoh Tral.
According to reports, the boy was sitting on a tractor that had been parked on a slope near the school when the incident took place.
Preliminary reports suggest that the tractor suddenly moved or overturned while the child was allegedly attempting to start or handle the vehicle.
The vehicle overturned abruptly, trapping the boy underneath and causing critical injuries.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help and attempted to rescue the child. However, he had sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot before medical assistance could arrive.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. [KNT]
