The accused, identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Subhan Ganie, a resident of Hassanpora Bagh in Qaimoh, was arrested on the basis of a warrant issued by the Sessions Judge, Kulgam, police said.

The case dates back to September 7, 2006, when Mohd Maqbool Ganie, son of Sanaullah Ganie and a resident of Hassanpora Bagh, lodged a written complaint at Police Station Kulgam, alleging that the accused had struck his daughter on the head with a stick during an altercation, causing her death on the spot.

Following the complaint, police registered FIR No. 222/2006 under Section 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and initiated an investigation.

The accused subsequently absconded during the legal proceedings, prompting the court to issue an arrest warrant against him.

A police team from Police Station Kulgam apprehended him on Thursday and produced him before the court for further proceedings, police said.
