Police on Monday late evening issued the following statement regarding Badoora gunfight saying that on a credible input, a cordon & search operation was launched jointly by police and army at Badoora in Achabal area of District Anantnag.
The spokesman said that as the searches were going on, the hiding militant fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
He said that in the exchange of fire at the site of encounter, one Army Officer Ketan Sharma sustained gunshot injuries. He was evacuated to the hospital where he succumbed.
“Besides two other Army officials also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at the hospital. We pay our rich tributes to Officer Ketan Sharma for the supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty,” he said.
“In the encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained,” he added.
“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.
“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said the spokesman.
