SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday arrested a drug peddler and recovered 1.442 kilograms of suspected cannabis in the Larnoo area during a routine patrolling operation.
Acting on evening patrolling duty at Sirgan-Hallan crossing, a team from Police Station Larnoo intercepted a suspicious individual, later identified as Jahangir Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Maqbool Khan, a resident of Hallan Nowbugh. A search of the suspect led to the recovery of a nylon bag containing approximately 1.442 kg of crushed substance believed to be ganja.
The seized contraband was taken into custody following proper legal procedures, police said.
In this connection, a case under FIR No. 26/2026 has been registered at Police Station Larnoo under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigation has been initiated.
Police said efforts are ongoing to dismantle drug networks in the region and reiterated their appeal to the public to report any information related to drug trafficking or other criminal activities to the nearest police unit.
