South Kashmir: Police Arrest Four Drug Peddlers, Seize Over 166 Kg Narcotics

   

SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir on Monday arrested four alleged drug peddlers and seized more than 166 kilograms of narcotics, including ganja and charas, during multiple coordinated operations across Anantnag district.

Officials said the action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs and routine checking at various locations, resulting in major recoveries of contraband substances.

At Shalgam Crossing, a team from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted an Alto vehicle (JK01W-7328) during patrol duty and recovered nearly 110 kilograms of ganja. The accused, Nazir Ahmad Khatana of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested, and FIR No. 39/2026 was registered.

In a separate operation, Police Post Dialgam searched the residence of Mohd Rafiq Itoo in Watrigam after securing a court warrant, recovering around 51 kilograms of charas-like substance. A case under FIR No. 119/2026 under the NDPS Act was registered.

During naka checking at Sakhras Crossing, police apprehended Rayees Ahmad Shah of Wullarhama and recovered about 5 kilograms of charas powder from his possession.

In another operation at Doodnad Waghama, Police Station Bijbehara arrested one more accused and recovered 170 grams of charas along with Rs 18,700 in cash.

Police said investigations are ongoing to trace the larger drug trafficking network. Anantnag Police reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate drug abuse and urged the public to share information related to narcotics to strengthen the anti-drug campaign.
