SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday attached a residential house and froze cash amounting to Rs 4,73,500, alleging that the assets had been acquired from proceeds of the illegal drug and narcotics trade.
The residential property, located in Melhura village, stands on 1,065 square feet of land under Khasra/Survey No. 1327 and is valued at Rs 16,56,385, police said. It belongs to Farooq Ahmad Shah, adopted son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, a resident of Melhura.
Police said the house and cash were identified as assets acquired from proceeds generated through drug trafficking and related illegal activities.
The attachment and freezing proceedings were carried out under Section 68-F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) in connection with FIR No. 58/2024 registered at Police Station Zainapora.
According to police, the proceedings were conducted in the presence of a police team, an Executive Magistrate, the Lambardar and the Chowkidar, with the prescribed legal procedures being followed.
Shopian Police said the action was part of its ongoing measures against narcotics-related activities, including targeting financial assets and properties allegedly linked to the illegal drug trade.
Police appealed to the public to share information about drug trafficking and related activities.
