South Kashmir: Police Detain Suspected Drug Peddler Under PIT-NDPS Act

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday detained a suspected drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, officials said.

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, son of Gh. Mohi-ud-Din Ganie, a resident of Waghama in Bijbehara. Police said the action was part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and the distribution of narcotic substances in the district.

According to police, the preventive detention warrant was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and executed by Anantnag Police in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.

Following execution of the warrant, Ganie was apprehended and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah under the provisions of the preventive detention law.

Police said the action was aimed at targeting individuals involved in the illicit trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Anantnag Police said it would continue taking legal action against drug traffickers and repeat offenders as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and protect society, particularly younger people, from narcotics.

The police said its campaign against drug trafficking and other narcotics-related activities would continue.
