South Kashmir: Police Seize Six Vehicles in Illegal Mineral Excavation Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir police have seized a total of one JCB, three dumpers, and two tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Zainapora and Shopian areas in South Kashmir.

Two dumpers were impounded by Police Station Zainapora for operating without valid royalty documents, leading to the registration of FIR No. 95/2025 under relevant provisions of law. A similar action at Police Post Turkwangam saw the seizure of one dumper and one tractor engaged in unauthorised mineral extraction, resulting in FIR No. 96/2025. Investigations in both cases are ongoing.

In Shopian, police seized one JCB and one tractor found extracting minerals illegally without proper documentation. FIR No. 229/2025 has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

JK Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the district’s natural resources and warned that strict action will continue against violators. Authorities have urged the public to report any incidents of illegal mining to assist enforcement efforts.
