SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have seized three tractors, one tipper and two JCB machines involved in the unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals from various locations across the district.
The seizures were made during routine patrolling and enforcement drives, leading to the registration of multiple cases. One tractor was seized under FIR No. 68/2025 at Police Station Heerpora, another tractor under FIR No. 41/2025 at Police Station Imamsahib, and a JCB under FIR No. 50/2025 at Police Station Keller. Additionally, a tractor was recovered under FIR No. 69/2025 at Police Station Heerpora, while a tipper and another JCB were seized under FIR No. 267/2025 at Police Station Shopian.
All vehicles were operating without valid permissions or royalty documents, authorities said. Investigations into the cases are ongoing, and police have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the district’s natural resources.
The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities by reporting any unlawful mining activities.
