Security has been beefed up and forces have taken control of all the polling stations of South Kashmir  where polling is scheduled on Wednesday.

There are 12 candidates in fray in South Kashmir, including National Conference’s Dr Mehboob Baig and opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti.

South Kashmir constituency is comprised of more than 12 lakh voters and there is a bilateral contest between Baig and Mehbooba.

Security agencies have classified 83 per cent of the 1615 polling stations in the constituency as sensitive or hypersensitive.

Meanwhile, polling staff has reported 24 hours earlier in the district headquarters and they have been asked to spent the night under the police security.

The security has been increased manifold after the recent Tral killings.
