South Kashmir: Seven Tractors Seized in Illegal Mining Crackdown, Two Cases Registered

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday seized seven tractors allegedly being used for illegal mining in the Rambiara Nallah area and registered two cases against those involved.

The action was taken by a team from Police Station Heerpora during a routine patrol, when the vehicles were intercepted while allegedly transporting and extracting minerals without the required royalty permits.

Officials said FIR Nos. 53/2026 and 54/2026 have been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.

Police described the operation as part of an ongoing campaign to tackle illegal mining and safeguard natural resources in the district.

Shopian Police said it remains committed to enforcing environmental laws and urged the public to share information regarding illegal mining activities. Officials assured that the identity of informants would be protected and kept confidential.
