SRINAGAR: Police in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Saturday arrested six alleged drug peddlers in multiple operations and recovered a significant quantity of contraband.
In Shangus, a raid at the residence of Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh Rasool Sheikh of Patti Sheikhpora, led to the arrest of Riyaz and Aadil Latif, son of Mohd Latif of Doudpora Brah. Police recovered around 5.75 kg of ganja, and a case under FIR No. 33/2026 was registered under the NDPS Act.
At Sangam Chowk, Saqib Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Mohd Lone and a resident of Natipora Sangam, was apprehended with 140 grams of charas. FIR No. 84/2026 was registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
During naka checking at Bumzoo KP Road, Reyaz Ahmad Mochi, son of Ali Mohd Mochi of New Colony Mattan, was arrested with approximately 5.24 kg of charas powder. FIR No. 37/2026 has been registered at Police Station Mattan.
In Uttrasoo, a search operation at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Hassan of Cheerpora, resulted in the recovery of 2.225 kg of ganja. FIR No. 36/2026 was registered under the NDPS Act.
In a separate action based on specific inputs, police registered FIR No. 23/2026 against Gh Mohidin Sheikh, son of Khazir Mohammad Sheikh of Manzigam. After securing a warrant from a Judicial Magistrate, police conducted a search of his residential tin shed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, recovering approximately 17.27 kg of charas-like substance (Bhang Bhoosa). Additionally, 23 grams of charas were recovered during his personal search.
Police said investigations are ongoing in all cases.
Reiterating its resolve to curb drug trafficking, Anantnag Police appealed to the public to share information and support efforts to eliminate the drug menace.
