South Kashmir: SPO Job, Pahalgam Tent Permission: Leader Booked Over Rs 8.25 Lakh

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have registered a case against a political leader for allegedly taking Rs 8.25 lakh from a person on the promise of securing a Special Police Officer (SPO) job and permission to set up tents at Pahalgam during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

According to a police handout, the accused has been identified as Aabid Hussain Nengroo.

Police said Nengroo allegedly received the money from the complainant after promising to arrange the SPO appointment and facilitate permission for installing tents at Pahalgam during the annual pilgrimage.

The promised job and permission were allegedly not provided after the payment, following which the complainant approached the police.

Police have registered FIR No. 283/2026 under relevant provisions of law at Police Station Anantnag and initiated an investigation.

Further investigation into the allegations is under way.
