SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substance during naka checking, officials said.
Acting on a checkpoint operation, a police party intercepted an Eon vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-2959. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 4 kilograms and 475 grams of charas-like substance, which was reportedly wrapped in corn husk and concealed inside cavities of both front doors. Cash amounting to Rs 50,000 was also seized from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Ahmad Bhat, resident of Dedmeribagh Chadoora in Budgam, and Abdul Gani Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara.
In this connection, FIR No. 138/2026 has been registered at the concerned police station under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigation has been initiated to trace both forward and backward linkages of the alleged narcotics network.
Police said efforts are underway to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the region and urged the public to share information related to narcotics activity to assist enforcement agencies.
