Prof Saifuddin Soz, President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee addressed a gathering of Artisans drawn from various Mohallas of Old City at a Park near Aali Masjid ( Iddgah) Srinagar on Wednesday.

The meeting was specially organized by Artisans Organizations themselves to solemnize May Day and Prof Soz was invited to be the Chief Guest.

Prominent among them were representatives of Copper Workers Union, Shawl Workers, Paper Machie, Khatamband Ceiling Workers, Labour welfare Union, and Construction Workers Union.

As per a statement the observers have felt that “it was a historic occasion as such meeting have never been held in this area in Srinagar.”

Prof Soz has assured the General Run of Artisans that they must struggle for their genuine demands and their demands will certainly be fulfilled and he (Prof Soz) and his colleagues in the party would consider it to be a sacred duty to help them out of difficulties.

Prof Soz has also urged them to start improving work culture in the state by reforming their own lives.

Earlier Prof Soz traced the history of May Day Celebrations to an event that took place on May 1st, 1886 at Chicago (USA) and emphasized that this day is officially being solemnized in 86 countries of the world.
