With the summer session of the Legislative Assembly set to begin from September 30, Mubarak Gul, Speaker of Legislative Assembly will convene an all party meet to ensure the smooth functioning of the session.

Talking to KNS, Gul said, “All preparations have been made to ensure the smooth functioning of the upcoming Assembly session.  I have convened the all party meeting on September 27. I appeal to MLAs to raise the issues of public importance in a democratic spirit.”

Reliable sources have told KNS that the opposition parties will spell out their strategy for the coming session after holding meetings of their legislature within next few days while National Conference and Congress will also chalk out their strategy to counter the opposition.

This will probably be the last session in the summer capital, Srinagar, as general Assembly elections are due next year in the state. However, budget session would be held at Jammu, the winter capital next year before the polls.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Secretariat has received 474 questions 40 private members bills and 33 resolutions for the ensuing Legislative Assembly session.

The legislators including that of ruling National Conference, Congress and opposition Peoples Democratic Party have furnished 474 queries in the Assembly Secretariat for response from the Government.  Among the queries, 226 are starred and remaining 218 are un-starred.

As per the rules, each MLA is entitled to submit 10 questions- five starred and five non-starred. The session is expected to be stormy as opposition parties are expected to corner the government over the number of issues including the recent civilian killings in Shopian.
