The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul has called upon the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control to formulate a comprehensive plan for construction of sustainable protection bunds along river Jehlum to prevent flood threats in future.
As per a statement the Speaker issued the direction while inspecting various flood hit areas of Srinagar city on Friday.
During his inspection of Eidgah area, the Speaker has asked the officers of CA&PD, SMC, PHE, PDD and R&B departments to gear up their efforts to ensure all essential amenities to the people. He has directed for undertaking special sanitation drive in the flooded areas to prevent any kind of post-flood epidemic. He emphasized the need for sustained awareness campaign to educate the people about the post-flood measures.
