Apparently dissatisfied with Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti’s response to the summer 2016 unrest, opposition lawmakers jumped into the well and disrupted the proceedings. At least two lawmakers had a brief quarrel as well.

The NC and Congress lawmakers were seeking interventions after Chief Minister concluded her speech detailing the summer 2016 situation and her government’s response. Since the Speaker did not permit, the entire opposition left their seats and entered the well of the house. They even kicked around the furniture paving way for quick assembly staff response to prevent any undoing in the seating systems.

While most of the NC and PDP were busy in shouting slogans and hooting at the treasury benches, two lawmakers were found actually fighting. NCs Majid Larmi and BJPs Ravinder Raina were seen busy in a heated exchange. One of the lawmakers had snatched a few papers from the other one and tore them away. The scuffle was prevented by the intervention of the assembly staff.

Larmi finally joined his colleagues in the well of the house. Even Bandipore lawmaker was seen trying to crash into the treasury benches.

Led by Devinder Singh Rana, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Congressman from Leh Rigzin Jora, the opposition is still in the well of the house for almost 45 minutes now.

With no access to mikes, the opposition managed its show with simple lung power. Amid sloganeering, however, the Speaker permitted some of the members from the treasury members to speak, using mikes and trying dominating the house. For disruptions, the opposition members were thumping the tables with heaps of paper thus adding to the decibel power of the noise.

Reporters were unable to make anything out of the verbal hurling at each other because of the pandemonium.

The 47-minute tensions came to an end after the speaker permitted the opposition to speak. Ali Mohammad Sagar started the speech.
