SRINAGAR: Amid the BJP’s demand to disallow unconstitutional, anti-national, and undemocratic resolutions and bills in the House, the National Conference (NC) on Saturday said that the Speaker would decide on the House’s business, accusing the BJP of making such statements merely to score brownie points.
In response to a question regarding the BJP’s appeal to the Speaker not to permit any unconstitutional, anti-national, or undemocratic activity in the House—following the submission of an Article 370 resolution by People’s Conference (PC) president Sajad Gani Lone—the NC stated that the Speaker has the authority to decide on the House’s business.
“The Speaker will determine whether any bill is unconstitutional or anti-national and qualifies for introduction in the House. The Speaker is present in the House, and a team of legal experts reviews the bills to be tabled. The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry ensures that no unconstitutional or anti-national bill is introduced in the House,” NC leader and MLA Hazratbal Salman Sagar said.
He added that the BJP is making such statements only to score brownie points.
PC president Sajad Gani Lone has submitted a resolution in the Assembly seeking condemnation of the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A. He has also called for the restoration of the constitutional position as it was before August 5, 2019. Meanwhile, the BJP is demanding that no such resolution be introduced in the House, stating that they will not permit any unconstitutional or anti-national activity. (KNO)
